Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and versatile Primary Homeroom & English Teacher to join our British-style international school in Hangzhou. In this dual-role position, you will serve as the homeroom teacher for a designated class while also delivering high-quality English instruction. You will be responsible for the holistic development, pastoral care, and academic progress of your homeroom students, with a particular focus on English language and literacy.
Key Responsibilities
Homeroom Responsibilities
Pastoral Care and Student Well-being
Serve as the primary point of contact for students and parents regarding academic, social, and emotional matters.
Foster a warm, inclusive, and supportive classroom community that promotes respect, responsibility, and resilience.
Monitor student attendance, behaviour, and overall well-being, intervening when necessary in line with school policies.
Classroom Management and Daily Operations
Establish and maintain clear routines, expectations, and classroom rules.
Oversee daily homeroom activities, including morning meetings, transitions, and end-of-day procedures.
Coordinate with specialist teachers (e.g., Maths, Science, PE, Art) to ensure cohesive student support.
Parent Communication and Collaboration
Maintain regular, professional communication with parents regarding student progress, behaviour, and development.
Lead parent-teacher conferences and provide written reports as required.
Collaborate with parents to address individual student needs and celebrate achievements.
English Teaching Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate English lessons in line with the school's British-based curriculum.
Develop students' reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills across a range of genres and contexts.
Create a language-rich classroom environment that fosters a love for literature and effective communication.
Student Assessment and Progress
Assess, track, and document student progress in English regularly, providing constructive feedback to support growth.
Identify and address diverse learning needs, including EAL (English as an Additional Language) learners and high achievers, through differentiation and targeted support.
Curriculum Contribution
Collaborate with grade-level and English department colleagues to develop, review, and improve English curriculum materials and schemes of work.
Integrate literacy skills across subject areas where appropriate, supporting cross-curricular learning.
General Responsibilities (Both Roles)
Holistic Student Development
Support the academic, social, emotional, and moral development of all students in your homeroom class.
Model positive behaviour, respect, and a growth mindset for students.
Professional Collaboration and Development
Actively participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school-wide initiatives.
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, specialist teachers, and support staff to ensure a cohesive learning experience.
School Policies and Safeguarding
Follow all school policies regarding safeguarding, behaviour management, health and safety, and data protection at all times.
Ensure a safe and secure learning environment for all students.
Salary and Benefits
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
Accommodation: Provided and paid for by the school (on-campus or off-campus apartment)
Health Insurance: International employee healthcare plan, covering spouse and dependent children
Flight Allowance: RMB 10,000 per employee per year
Relocation Allowance: RMB 5,000 for the first school year
Annual Bonus: RMB 36,000 payable in July each year (subject to the school's bonus policy; not applicable in case of early contract termination)
